Full Class, Last Day of SchoolKids out, deer in.Designing Boats in MathIn math, the last week of school we researched different boats, then designed our own. We looked at all kinds of real life boats and paid attention to the materials used, and the shapes of the boats. From there, we designed our own boats. We tested out passenger capacities as well using marbles as our people.. Independent ProjectsWorking on our Pollinator Garden

Summer is here! I know there are lots of exciting trips planned, and wonderful lazy days ahead. In the midst of it all, please continue to read regularly! They all have progressed so much in their reading, it would be a shame to see them slip back. In their reading journals that are going home there is a list of grade level appropriate titles to get them started. Summertime is also a great time to get a library card. If you want to keep those math skills sharp, here are a list of math card games they have learned over the year that they can teach you this summer: -Tens Go Fish -Tens Memory -Sweet 13 -Pyramid 10 -Addition/Subtraction War I will also post some online math games that they can play on my resources page. ReminderIf your child has medications in the office, please remember to pick them up. Also, if you have not already submitted your returning student form, please do so. It is attached to the email sent out 6/8/17. docs.wixstatic.com/ugd/df2512_6d7ba3bb689344689ba4a70ce11264e8.pdf

Scholastic Summer Reading ChallengeFriday afternoon the sign up sheet for the Summer Reading Challenge went home. We are aiming to have 218 students take the pledge to read this summer. They each got a password and login to record their reading over summer. By doing this, they can unlock prizes online. Check your student's backpack for the login code! There will also be a raffle for those who sign up to win a gift card to the Book Fair that is happening at school this week. Check out the media center blog for more going on in library this week: http://mralibrary.blogspot.com/2017/05/recent-happenings-in-meadow.html Last Library CheckoutThis week was the last week for checking out books from the library. Summer is fast approaching, please make sure that all books are returned in the next week or two. Thank you! Talent ShowThere were a lot of Huckleberries who auditioned for the Talent Show, and now you may be wondering when you can see them perform. The performance will be on June 8th at 9:30 If your child has auditioned and made it into the Talent Show, make sure that they continue to practice at home. We will not have time to practice in class, so it is up to them to practice on their own time. If they are wearing a costume, please make sure they have that on June 8th as well and that it has been pre-approved by Mrs. Blythe in their audition. Independent ProjectsIt has been so awesome to see the independent project presentations. It is obvious that the kids have been working hard and doing a lot of research on their topics. I am so impressed! If you don't remember what time your child is signed up for, here is the link again: www.signupgenius.com/go/5080e4eabab29a3f49-huckleberry AssessmentsI know this glorious summer weather has people wanting to take trips and cut school early, but please be aware that I am finishing assessments for the end of the year. If you are planning to take your child out of school, I'd appreciate a heads up or flexibility in making sure not to miss assessment times. Thank you!
Independent Projects Start Monday! Please make sure that you are working at home on those independent projects! Again, creative displays of what the kids have learned are highly encouraged-dioramas, models, mobils, etc. If you have not yet signed up for Independent Projects you may sign up here: http://www.signupgenius.com/go/5080e4eabab29a3f49-huckleberry You are welcome to watch your child's presentations as well! Talent Show Auditions Next WeekMany students have signed up to audition for the Talent Show. We are holding "pre-auditions" in class 2 days before their actual audition. This way they can get some feedback and be sure to be prepared for their actual audition. Please remember that if your child is performing something that involves music, the music must be given to Ms. Blythe beforehand, and any costumes need to be worn for the audition. Bee SanctuariesThis week we continued to work on our bee sanctuaries and are a few steps closer to being nationally recognized as a Pollinator Garden. We created Bee Baths to provide a water source for our bees. We also added more flowers to our berm to get a variety of plants so that there will be something in bloom year round.
Preparing for the Talent ShowDear Families, The annual Talent Show will be held on June 8 at 9:30 am. Auditions will be held the week of May 22 - 26th during lunch recess. Sign-ups will be available in each classroom on May 15. Acts should be well rehearsed and performance ready. In the case of spoken word or singing for example, performers should know all lyrics, speak or sing clearly and do so with expression and projection. For vocal acts that are accompanied by music, student must supply the karaoke version of the song on a flash drive or via email prior to the audition. Dance routines with music accompaniment must also supply the music by flash drive or via email prior to the audition. Acts that are not performance ready may be asked to re-audition or may not be included in the show as this is as much a celebration of hard work and discipline as it is about performing arts. Students that are unprepared on audition day will not audition. We look forward to seeing you at auditions! Audition Committee Ms. Fety, Mr. Luke, Ms. Blythe and Ms. Ingalls. Thank you all, Rachel Volunteers and Donations Needed! Our class has been thinking about how we can support our bee colony at school. We are creating a pollinator garden for the bees and would like to be officially recognized as a pollinator garden by the National Pollinator Garden Network: http://millionpollinatorgardens.org/about/#pollinatorgardens. One of the requirements is to have a water supply for the bees. Next week we will be making watering holes for our bees. We will need some volunteer help; donations of materials would also be greatly appreciated! Please comment below if you will be donating or volunteering so that we can all be in the loop of what has already been taken care of. Thank you! 3-4 Volunteers Wednesday 8:20-10 Materials:
Pollinator GardenOur big question fro this week was how can we support our bee colony? On Friday we worked outside establishing a pollinator garden for our new bees. Some kids transplanted some Oregon Grape over to our berm. Others worked on some "lasagna mulching" near our hive. Buddy ReadingLadies TeaIt was so great to see all the moms, grandmas, aunts, and other ladies today at Ladies' Tea. The kids loved having you here, and we all appreciate all the support you give your kids! Independent Project Sign UpsHere are the time slots to sign up for presenting independent projects. You are also more than welcome to come watch your son or daughter present their independent project. I have included the links for all the classes for ease of access with siblings.
